Teachers nominate students monthly who they believe demonstrate our core values. Effort, character, compassion, honesty, trustworthiness, optimism, and responsibility are all qualities that these students should possess. For the month of October, Juniors Beau Weiss and Paige Nickless were chosen as upholders of these values. Students of the Month are given a reserved parking space in front of the school, a keychain, and a water bottle that says, “The Longhorn Way.” Every nominated student receives a card containing a quote from the teacher who recommended them. Beau Weiss states, “I helped pick up a box of crayons at the start of the year...”, continuing on to explain that all he had to do was pick up something that nobody else bothered to. Anybody can be a Student of the Month, and it’s an excellent chance for students because at the end of the year, every student of the month that year will have a chance to win a scholarship. Overall, getting voted for student of the month can be an unexpected chance for a student to be recognized.
