It may have been the first year for ESports at Chase County, but you'd never know that these students hadn't been competing for years if you look at their record. The team had 20 players show up, but only 2-5 could compete varsity at a time. The team has competed in Overwatch, Super smash Bros, Mario Kart, Clash Royale, and Valorant so far. This season the team will compete in Rocket League and Fortnite.
Between all the game modes, the teams competed against 10 teams throughout the season. Each team plays 6 matches a season for regular season and then in a single elimination playoff tournament based on seeding. There are a total of 3 seasons in our league. The team qualified to compete at State for Overwatch. After taking down David City in semifinals, the team went on to conquer Laurel-Concord-Coolidge and they now hold the state title.
Fortnite and Rocketleague are the current season. Coach Anderson feels there is a very good chance that another state championship could come from this season in either of the games. Fortnite team 1’s only loss was a close one to the #1 team in state and RocketLeague team 1 is currently undefeated. We look forward to seeing more success from our ESports team!
