aquadome

George Colton and Navy Smith have been working hard in STEM class. The idea for their Aqua Dome began last year, when they were sophomores. Colin O'Neil was also involved in the early stages of the project, but he has since graduated.

Their goal is to create a water purifying device that is simplistic and harnesses the natural process of purification.  By following these guidelines, they hope to keep the cost of production down so that it is more accessible for third world countries where clean drinking water is not easily accessible.

When visiting with the pair, they also mentioned the issues that are happening stateside in Flint, Michigan.  They said that the study of the water crisis is what inspired them to pursue this project.

They are currently state finalists (Phase 1) and should hear about their status towards the end of January.  The boys would eventually like to see Aqua Dome be used by a charitable organization, but, at this point, nothing has been put in place on raising donations.

There are multiple phases. Each phase offers a prize that must be used by the school. Phase 1 was $2,500 in Samsung tech. Phase 2 is $12,000 in Samsung tech. Phase 3 which is Nationals, would be a $100,000 prize. $75,000 has to be in Samsung technology while $25,000 of that prize would be allowed to be used by the school.
